Starting Your Morning With Intention

It is important to our team that we give God our morning. By doing so, we’re communicating that we’re trusting Him with whatever may come during the day, we’re allowing the things of Christ to fill our minds and our hearts FIRST, and we are making it a point to do it together, so that we are a unified body in our workplace.

Ever since the beginning of Narrow Gate Trading Co. almost 6 years ago, we have made it our priority and goal to set aside this intentional time every single day. It doesn’t always look like diving into a passage of Scripture together. Sometimes we go through a book such as Fathered by God by John Eldredge, Art for God’s Sake by Philip Ryken, or Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller. Or we just take the time to go around and ask what is going on in everyone’s life, what our struggles are, how we can pray for each other, or what God is teaching us in this season of life.

It may look a little different each morning, but every day at 8:30 our team grabs a cup of coffee, brings in some breakfast, and we sit and we build relationship with each other and with God.

This means that when it’s time to get our work day started, we’ve already set the standard for what we want out of our time at work. We want  to work hard, love each other, and glorify God in all that we do. This means the way that we treat our customers, the integrity we have in making the highest quality products, and how we face challenges throughout the day.

When we asked one of our Leather Artisans, Taylor, about why morning study was important to him, he said “It helps me get in the mindset of truth as well as prepares me to take my thoughts captive. It gives the enemy a much weaker position in my day and in my mind.”

We want to invite you to join us in that mindset. Let’s get truth in the forefront of our minds together! So whether you’re sitting down with your morning coffee to read this, on your lunch break in the middle of a busy day, or winding down at night, we want to share with you what we’re studying this week.

Recently, we have been going through a devotional written by Billy Graham called “Hope For Each Day.” In his devo, he gives a short message of truth and then adds a prayer at the end of every page. Here is one we hope encourages your heart!

“‘Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ John 3:3

In the third chapter of John, Jesus teaches that the new birth is something God does for us as we yield ourselves to Him and put our faith and trust in Christ. We do not have within ourselves the seed of the new life, this must come from God.

One day an ugly caterpillar climbs into a tree and spins a silky robe about itself. It goes to sleep, and in a few weeks emerges a beautiful butterfly.

So we – discouraged, unhappy, hounded by guilt, confused, depressed, vainly looking for an escape – can come by faith to Christ and emerge as a new person. We can be born again! It sounds incredible, even impossible- and yet it is precisely what happens. We become members of God’s family, looking forward to our eternal home in heaven.

Do you feel as though you are in a cocoon? Turn to Christ and ask Him to give you your beautiful wings so that you might soar above your problems and be victorious over them.”

-Billy Graham

We hope this not only gives you a little insight into what a typical work morning looks like for us, but also encourages you to open the word of God each morning so that you can also start each day with strength and intention.
